"HORSEBOX or HORSE-BOX ? That is the question…" could have Shakespeare written... Or something of the kind... Anyway, as for the MOTOCART, the Liverpool DINKY factory obviously had problems with "-"...
In that case, it is not a modified lettering, but two distinct castings indeed, and the HORSE-BOX writing seems to be more common than the other. The only examples I own of the HORSEBOX version are an export model, and a NEWMARKET one. I think that the BRITISH RAILWAYS version does also exist, but I never found one. No reason that it couldn't exist...
The truck modelled is a MAUDSLAY (as the LUXURY COACH and the OBSERVATION COACH). Apart from this odd writings variant, I didn't notice any other casting variant, and so there are three different liveries, and SUPERTOYS hubs matching the maroon body color (usually with grey round section tyres) or red (black square section tyres) on the both maroon versions, clear yellow on the NEWMARKET version.
This truck is one of the rare models cast in aluminium (not in mazak) produced by a third maker for the Liverpool factory (as the PULLMORE car transporter which will be discussed in a further post). My friend JP told me that there are also mazak HORSEBOXes but I never had one in the hands, although testing the weight of all the models I see on the swapmeets for numerous years. The weight of an aluminium HORSEBOX (or HORSE-BOX) is between 228 and 240 grams (8.04 to 8.47 oz), then test yours !
